Elze makes custom design, handmade, contemporary jewellery. Using precious metals, diamonds and semi-precious stones. Elze: "All my work is completely handmade, and made by me. I supply small once off ranges to a few outlets in Namibia. I also do bridal jewellery (engagement rings, wedding bands) and custom designs for clients."

How long have you been in business and how did you get started?
Started January 2013. My first studio was a small gloomy corner in a garage in Longbeach - luckily lots of short breaks with beach walks and flamingos made sure there was plenty of inspiration!

What inspired you to start your business?
I just knew right from the start that I wanted to build up my own business and make jewellery that I love.

What would you say was your biggest challenge to overcome?
My biggest challenge to overcome constantly is balancing work life and family life. I love what I do but it is only a small part of who I am. There are a lot of other important things that also need my attention and that I'm passionate about.

What is your favourite part of your business?
My favourite part is delivering a custom piece to a client and being completely happy with the end result, and then seeing their faces and seeing that same excitement that I felt when making it!

What change are you looking forward to most this year?
New studio, new ideas for ranges, big exhibition in September and 'Open Studio' days!

Where do you go to find inspiration for your business?
I like to get out in nature. Whilst social media, especially instagram can be very inspiring and exciting, I prefer to get out and clear my mind of all that. It can just become too overwhelming. The authenticity of nature is my biggest inspiration! Colour, texture, detail, change of seasons...

Do you have a hidden talent?
I love to play the piano and violin but between having my hands full of jewellery tools or two busy boys - a quiet moment to play is very rare these days!

How do you create a connection between you and your clients?
I like to create a space that is comfortable. I enjoy seeing clients at my studio. It is also a cool experience for them to see where the jewellery is made and how 'simple' the tools actually are. Jewellery is such a personal thing, so I like to get to know my clients a bit better before we even get started on talking jewellery. What they do, what they like etc.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
10 years from now I hope to still be involved in handmade jewellery in some way. I hope to have the time to teach a skill to women (or even men) and build a part of my business around empowering people.

What other profession would you love to try?
Anything creative!

Anything else about your awesome business you would like to share?
Exciting things planned for the future : ). Whilst growing a family and a business at the same time, it can be really challenging. But I am so thankful to my clients for always being understanding! I am learning to embrace every season and enjoy growth, no matter how small it may seem or how slow at times.
